How to Store and Back Up Your Digital Portrait Files

Your custom digital pet portrait is a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. Once it's delivered, it's important to store it safely so you never risk losing it. Here's a simple guide to backing up and organising your digital files so your portrait is protected for years to come.

Why Backing Up Matters

Digital files can be lost in ways that physical objects can't — a phone upgrade, a corrupted hard drive, an accidentally deleted folder. Unlike a printed photograph, a digital file can be reprinted as many times as you like — but only if you still have it. The 3-2-1 Backup Rule

A simple and widely recommended approach to file backup is the 3-2-1 rule:

  • 3 copies of the file
  • Stored on 2 different types of media (for example, your computer and an external hard drive)

Create a clearly labelled folder for your portrait files — something like "Pet Portraits" — and keep all versions (the original file, any resized versions for printing, etc.) in one place. This makes it easy to find the file when you want to reprint or share it.
